In 1963, commercial artist Harvey Ball, created the iconic smiley face symbol. As the recognisable yellow and black symbol took not just the USA, but the world, by storm, Ball was afraid it would lose its meaning. So in 1999, World Smile Day was established (on the first Friday in October) to remind people across the world to smile and make random acts of kindness.
How do you celebrate?
1. Help others! Charitable acts can have enlightening effects on you and those around you.
2. Take time to do something that will put a smile on your face.
3. Commit random acts of kindness - give a compliment, tell your friend you care about them.
